VA Salisbury: Chilled Water Lines

This project involved an investigative survey of chilled water lines of Building Three at the Salisbury, N.C. VA facility and the design of a new chilled water distribution system that included upsized mains and larger circulator pumps to handle increased demand.

It was also found that most of the existing fan coil units were obsolete, so newer, more efficient units were incorporated into the design. To further upgrade the mechanical systems, a heating hot water system was added to facilitate the future switch-over of a complete VAV system.

Building heating loads were calculated using the original envelope construction in order to estimate a worse-case demand for the new hot water system. Finally, modernized controls were added to the building’s existing air handlers.
